Movies with a different names are not a rarity in Kannada cinema, the latest release Churikatte is one more addition to the list of the movies with a different name.

The movies  of the Crime Thriller Genre is one of the toughest genres to be handled especially when the director is a newbie – but in the case of ChuriKatte the debutante filmmaker Raghu Shivamogga passes with distinction.

Crime Thriller movies with a star hero limits the storyline as there will be a template or a formula to be followed for a STAR HERO movies to please their followers , but Churikatte has no limits and director has utilized this freedom and etched out fantastic screenplay which is the strength of the movie.

This movie is about Timber Mafia and its proceedings which is untouched as far as Kannada Cinema is concerned. There is also a love affair in the film, which is very well connected with the storyline.

First Half is pacy enough, though there are unwanted fight and a song; nevertheless it sets the tone by introducing all the important characters in the movie and marvelous interval bang which makes the audience wait for the 2nd half with a baited breath. Second half is very gripping; it would have been the best if the director had not given the commercial touch to the climax.

Biggest draw to the movie is the realistic treatment of the screenplay and the people involved in technical department.

Every artist in the movie does justice to the role and renowned Character artist Achyuth Kumar steals the show and we wouldn’t be surprised if the audience gives a standing ovation for his acting skills. Praveen Tej and Balaji Manohar are sure to get few offers by fellow Gandhinagar people post this film.

Background music by Nobil Paul is the biggest highlight of the film. Advaitha Gurumurthy Cinematography adds value to the movie. Vasuki Vaibhav songs connect well with the movie proceedings.

All in all, Churikatte is a well made edge of the seat thriller, which is definitely watchable by all kind of audience.

Director Harsha who is known to name his movies with synonyms of Lord Hanuman like Bhajarangi, Vajrakaaya has now come up with the film Anjaniputra and this time he has Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead.

After a Industry Hit ‘Raajakumara’, Puneeth is back to entertain the audience through a Mass movie. So how did this new combo of Harsha and Puneeth Work out? Let’s check out.

As Said, this movie is a Commercial package and is a remake of Tamil Hit Movie Poojai Starring Vishal.

It has all the elements of being called as a Mass cinema with no Qualms. It has heaps of supporting actors to pitch in the emotional quotient, in demand Comedians to evoke laughter, Formulaic 5 songs for music lovers, Eye catching Fights for Mass public and dialogues which play to the gallery.

Talking about the story, Puneeth Rajkumar Saves the ACP (Ravi Shankar) from a Fatal attack, and comes in the way of a contract killer. This leads to Misconceptions, coincidences & the consequences lead to form the crux of the story of Anjani putra. If you are too inquisitive as to why do our hero save the ACP, you need to watch the movie on silver screen.

Puneeth brings his Macho image on screen and delivers the role with ease. He looks tough and gives out subtle expressions which are his strength and he has oozed out energy in each and every scene. Rashmi Mandanna as his love interest plays a good natured, jaunty girl next door and delivers a good performance.

Supporting Artistes led by Ramya Krishna, Ravi Shankar do their job neat and adds value to the movie. Chikkanna,Sadhu Kokila & Giri Comedy has worked out well but in some scenes it looks forced.

Couple of songs are hummable and back ground music has worked out big-time. Ravi Basrur is on a roll here after the success of Mufti and Kataka.Ravi Verma and Vijay choreographed Stunt Sequences are feast for the action lovers.

DOP, Swamy has done a neat job, while Deepu’s editing is sharp. Chethan Kumar’s dialogues are tailor made for Puneeth fans and do gets applause from them in the theatres.

Though this is a remake movie Director Harsha has made required changes and also chopped unwanted sequences from the original while filming this mass and family entertainer. He has cooked a pure commercial film, which goes very well with Appu fans and the ones who love Action Genre Films .

The First half of the film is very engaging and entertaining, but the second half could have been better. Though the film plot is quite familiar, the screenplay is engaging and keep you entertained throughout with right mixture of action, comedy and emotions.

Overall, it is a Paisa Vasool Mass Entertainer.

In an industry where there is no scarcity for horror genre films of various fashions, Mantram is an attempt to join the list.

Mantram with its name and a Good trailer had created quite a good buzz in Gandhinagara. The Director Sajjan is a debutante who has etched out decent Scaring scenes in the movie has managed to blend in emotional quotient & a message to the society which is a rarity in horror movies.

As a cliché, the movie opens up in a Large old house ,where weird things happen. Sticking to the formula of a horror movie  which has a ghost , young couples , an old house , strange happenings, creepy  Background music – there by the director does some justice to the genre.

First half is completely about building curiosity – and coming to 2nd half which forms the crux of the movie where there is scene reversal and the movie takes a complete U turn.

The director and the screenplay writer Wins here & it’s up to the audience to lap it up or not by watching it on screen.

We could easily say that this is good attempt at making a decent horror movie in kannada. The climax is really good and its disturbs the audience and makes them to think about it for a while.

Lead Actress is good in her role, this might her fetch few offers. Cameo by Gaurish Akki is interesting.

Editing in the 2nd half is very good and in 1st half its average. Music By Ravi Basurur is too good and he is creating a brand for himself.

So all in All Mantram is a great attempt and managed well.

Rating 3/5

Mufti – a very famous Slang term to depict a policeman who is undercover and performing his righteous duties.
When we get a Kannada movie Announced with this name & with an ensemble star cast like Dr.Shivarajkumar and Sri Murali the audience were excited for obvious reasons.
The trailer of this movie had created ripples all over social media and fans of Shivanna were on their toes to see him on the silver screen with salt and pepper look which is the best look for him in recent years.
Going by the Teasers and Trailer anybody could guess that Sri Murali is the policeman in Mufti and Shivanna is a dreaded Don.
Is there any cat & mouse game between the two? Like all other movies where the protagonist playing a don role, will be a robin hood type Don? Has the new director Narthan followed the norm and picked up the same formula even here?
Well it’s up to the audience to watch the movie on the Big Screen to know what exactly the director tells in his narrative.
Talking about performances of the artists, Sri Murali owns the first half of the movie with his stylish looks & mass dialogues, though there are shades of Ugramm in the film, it’s an inevitable comparison the audience does.
Dr. Shivanna owns the Second Half. He has portrayed the role of Bhairathi Ranagal in such a way that you could say that he was born to do this role. Such is the aura and charisma he carries on the screen while enacting a Don role.
Devaraj and Vashishta Simha as baddies scores well. It is Chaya Singh who surprises all with amazing performance. Her screen space is less but she is seen in some real good scenes of the movie.
Shanvi Shrivasthava’s Role isn’t a meatier one and she is wasted.
When it comes Negatives of the film. The comedy sequences are not up to the mark and the romance part too isn’t impressive.
This isn’t a movie where we have 4 songs, 5 fights which has a formulaic story– this is a different narrative with Dark Shades.
We’ve had quite a few movies with darker themed movies but this movie stands out.
Ravi Basrur as a music director has done a commendable job along with the Cameraman Naveen Kumar. The Dialogue writer scores good marks too.
All in all you have many reasons to watch this movie – Shivanna & Sri Murali Performance, The Narration, Brother-Sister Emotional Scenes, Top class Making and High production values.
Don’t miss it.

Movie: Psycho Shankara
Cast: Pranav,Navarasan,Sharath Lohitasva

Music: Sridhar KashyapRavi Basrur

Cinematography: Nithin
Editor: NM Vishwa
Directed by: Punith Arya
Release date: November 10 2017

Its not a rare thing in kannada to make a film based on the true events or notorious  personalities. We’ve had quiet a few of them like Veerappan , Umesh Reddy,Dandupalya Gang  etc and co-incidentally few of them have striked well at Box office too. So following the que Psycho Shankara is one more addition to the kitty which is based on the notorious serial killer Pshycho Shankara and his wrong doings.

Story:

Even though the movie title may sound that the movie is completely based on Life history of Shankara , but it’s not.

It’s based on one Rape and a murder  and the happenings around this murder, though Psycho Shankara takes the centre stage – he is well supported by other characters too in the movie.

Analysis :
This movie marks the entry of Pranav - one more debutante to Kannada film industry. He plays the role Narasimha  and he is impressive in his body language and dialogue delivery. Biggest highlight of the movie is the characterisation of Navarasan(Pyscho Shankra) where he is not seen mouthing any dialogues at all. From beginning to the ending Psycho Shankara doesn’t utter a word. Navarasan has played it to the perfection.

Sharath Lohithaswa as police office has excelled in his role and it’s a gift for Kannada industry to have such a talented Character Artist in the form of Sharath.

There is also a track of brother Sister sentiment in the movie, which is the main strength and this has to be watched on screen as to which brother- sister are we talking about.

Technical Excellence:

Director Punith Arya has done a very neat job and his Effort is seen in every Frame of the movie. He has used Kollegala dialect to the perfection, which is very appreciable.

Cineamtography is very pleasing , as for a movie which is based on real life characters , it’s hard to etch out thrillers if it’s not aptly supported by technical team, especially editing of the movie should be crispier and we have a winner here.

Background music of the movie by Ravi basarur  is worth mentioning and it adds value to the movie.

So we could comfortably say that this movie is worth a watch. Go watch in your nearest theaters.

Directors last few movies like Actor, Haggada Kone were different attempts , lets see how his recent movie has turned out

Story:
Going by the name , one could think the protagonist would be inspired from the very Famous king Satya Harishchandra who is known for the virtue of his character of not lying or sticking on to the truth no matter what situation he is in , but on the contrary our leading hero basks on lies to earn his daily bread and butter.

His habbit of lieing lands him in trouble and how does he come out of it forms the rest of the story.

Analysis :
Sharan is at his best , his comic timing and his one liners are the best and he lives up to the character of the movie. Heroines Sanchita and bhaavana hav supported him well and they look gorgeous on the screen which is an added bonus.

Other comedy artistes like chikkanna and sadhu Kokila does their job neat and evokes laughter in many scenes. There are hilarious scenes etched out for the comedy artistes and it has worked out well.

Other supporting actors like sharath lohitashwa Seetha have done what they are supposed to do.

Cameo by National award winner Sanchari Vijay isn’t too convincing but can’t be ignored.

Technical Excellence:

Dayal Padmanabhan has yet again delivered a different film and he still knows the pulse of the audience. He has everything included in a movie which a sharan movie should have. So the audience won’t be disappointed with this movie.

Cinematography, artwork and production values all are pretty good.

Arjun Janya Music is nice , 2 songs are hummable. Editing could have been crispier in the 2nd half – but nevertheless not much to complain.

Overall A good comedy Entertainer, which is worth watching.

Vaira is a suspense thriller released this week which is directed by debutante Navarasan.

Vaira, is basically a revenge drama, but the director intelligently narrates it to cater all genre audience with good amount of friendship, love and thrilling scenes. He has made sure the screenplay is engaging enough for about 110mins.

Coming to the storyline, A wannabe Actress is found missing in Madikeri and the suspect is a photographer who shot her pics in an event and the investigation leads to a haunted house and the story unfolds.

The first half of the film seems slow because the screenplay looks a familiar one,but it takes good turn towards the interval. The post interval scenes are very engaging and audience are sure to glue to the seats.

The first time director Navarasan is impressive. The shot composition of few scenes doesn’t give the feel that he is a debutante. The pre interval and climax scene are composed very well. As a director he is here to stay.

The background score of Ravi Basrur is the major highlight of the film. Time and again he is proving to be the best in the business.

Apart from Tabala Nani and couple others, the rest of the cast is new and thy have justified their selection.

Tabala Nani is a treat to watch in this film. He has got a meaty role. Navarasan,Priyanka Malnad and Raghav(character name) performance stands out among others.

Overall Vaira is definitely watchable film if you are game for suspense thrillers. Worth spending this weekend watching this film.
