Film: Divangatha Manjunathana Geleyaru

Director:  Arun N D

Cast: Rudraprayag, Sheethal Pandey, Shankar Murthy, Sachin, Mohan Das, Ravi Poojari, Naveen GM, and others.

.

Arun N D, who had worked for “Yenne Party” that was released on Youtube, makes debut as a director in Sandalwood with this film. The USP of Divangatha Manjunathana Geleyaru is the script and the dialogues that make you have a hearty laugh. The narration during the pre-intermission session deserves appreciation but same cannot be said about the post-intermission since the climax ends on predictable lines.

.

The other USP of the film is the message to society, especially to wayward boys and gullible parents who trust their children blindly. Director Arun has written punchy dialogues laced with humour and satire. The dialogues among the friends in a police station have the potential to entertain mass as well as class audiences. It also showcases how police fix the wrong persons in wrong cases.

.

The story is about Manjunath, a parasite and also an embodiment of bad habits. Manjunath not only cheats but also borrow money from friends. He wanted to lead a lavish life even by selling his ancestor’s property. On one fine day, he found hanging to a roadside tree. Kempaiah, a police inspector who is all set to get transferred for inefficiency, takes up the investigation. He summons late Manjunath’s friends one by one and torture them to confess to the crime. The police inspector wanted to avoid being transferred by proving his mettle.

Director introduces many flashback sequences to justify the police suspect late Manjunath’s friends for the murder. Unable to bear the torture and find a suitable job, one of them (who depends on his uncle for survival) comes forward to confess to the crime. What happens to him and his friends is the climax.

.

All the artistes have done a fantastic job. They acted like matured artistes. Sheethal Pandey, as a girl who changes boyfriends like changing costumes, is convincing. Ravi Poojar, who worked as an art director apart from playing one of the friends who works as a painter, deserves appreciation.

.

Music director Vinay Kumar H Y has done a good job and songs are melodious. The Technical Part of the film could have been lot better. The Lack of Good Budget has ruined the visual brilliance.

Anyhow, this film is watchable for youths for its message and entertaining dialogues.

Rating – 3/5

Ayogya is the first directorial venture for S Mahesh Kumar who worked with well-known director Yogaraj Bhat for quite a long time. The film that created a lot of buzz before release has succeeded in meeting the expectations of the audiences.

.

Ayogya is about Sidda alias Sidde Gowda (Satish Neenasam), the son of Bhagyamma (Aruna Balaraj), who wanted to become gram panchayat president. He has his own reasons for nursing such an impossible ambition. It is impossible since he neither has resources nor influence among the villagers while his opponent Bachche Gowda (Ravi Shankar) has money and manpower.

.

Meanwhile, his mother requests Shamanna (Sunder Raj), a marriage broker, to look for a suitable girl for him. Shamanna advises Sidda to meet Sowmya, an orphan girl but he meets Nandini (Rachita Ram) by mistaking her as Sowmya. Smitten by Nandini’s beauty, Siddha falls in love with her without knowing that she is Shamanna’s daughter. At this juncture, the government announces schedule for holding gram panchayat election. What happens to Sidda and his ambition and his plans to marry Nandini is the climax.

It is not that Ayogya is free from mistakes or boredom, especially the scene where imposters make Ravi Shankar to defecate in an open place, could have handled better. The middle part of second half is bit streched too. However, one can ignore these mistakes and come out of the theatre with a smile.

.

Satish Neenasam is at his best. He has emerged as a good commercial Hero through this flick. Ayogya indeed is a much needed film for him. Rachita Ram, the dimple queen, steals the show with her performance. Her Voice dubbing in Mandya dialect deserves appreciation. Ravi Shankar, as usual, is convincing as a baddie. Sunder Raj, as a marriage broker, has acted well. Giri and Shivaraj KR Pete have provided comedy. Sadhu Kokila as Bhairathi Gundkal(Spoof of Mufti Character), though late entry and brief performance, makes the audiences to giggle for a while.

.

Music by Arjun Janya is good and lyrics by Chetan (the director of Barjari) are very good. Preetham’s Camerawork is good & worth appreciating.

Overall Mahesh Kumar has delivered a Watchable Commercial Potboiler in his debut. It is a Paisa Vasool Flick.

Vaasu Naan Pakka Commercial, as its title suggest, is an out-and-out commercial film that has all ingredients to entertain mass audiences. If the stunt sequences are any indication, it seems director Ajith Vasu Uggina wanted to project Anish Tejeswar, who played the lead role apart from providing finance for this film, as a mass hero.

.

It is about Vaasu (Anish Tejeswar), a typical happy-go-lucky person, who goes to police station to ask the police inspector to file a first information report against him. He tells Police Inspector MancheGowda  (Avinash) that he wants to kill Mahalakshmi (Nishvika Naidu). When the police inspector asks him why he wants to kill her, the latter narrates his story in a flashback. He explains how he was leading a carefree life till he was smitten by the beauty of Mahalakshmi (Nishvika Naidu), the daughter of business magnate Janardhan (Deepak Shetty). He also tells the police inspector how bold and beautiful was Mahalakshmi and how he fell in love with her and what has made him to decide on taking a revenge on her. To know what the reasons are and who is responsible for Vaasu to become pakaa commercial, you have to watch the movie.

.

Anish has done his best to the role of Vaasu. He dances well, fights well and has given a decent even performance in emotional scenes too. As far as the performance of other artistes is concerned, Nishvika Naidu has vied with Anish Tejeswar. Her performance in romantic scenes deserves appreciation. Manjunath Hegde, as a show-off real-estate agent and also as a concerned father, has done justice to his assignment. Deepak Shetty is convincing as a business magnate. Urgam Manju is seen in one scene only and Swayamvara Chandru played a brief role.

.

Though songs are catchy and music by B Ajanessh Lokanath is foot-tapping, there is nothing to revel about the cinematography. Dilip Chakravarthy has done an average work due to the reasons best known to him.

The pre-intermission session is very good. It has all the ingredients to entertain the audiences but same cannot be said about the post-intermission session. It would have been good had the director reduced the number of overboard scenes in this film.Editing by Srikanth is not up to the mark.

.

However, if you are looking for a complete mass masala entertainer, Vaasu will do the needful.

Dhwaja is a political thriller which narrates a story of what really goes behind the manipulative game of politics set in a village backdrop.

This is a Remake of Tamil film Kodi. Ashok Kashyap who had a good time as a cinematographer is helming the director's hat in Dhwaja. Debutant Ravi has played a dual role along with Priyamani and Divya.

Dhwaja and Jana (both played by Ravi) are twins by birth. His father was also a low-rung party worker, brings him up to become a politician, before setting himself on fire, protesting against a factory who toxic mercury waste has ruined lives in the locality.Anbu is a soft spoken and intelligent, who works as a college professor.  Dhwaja falls for the over ambitious Ramya (played by Priyamani) who belongs to the rival party and has been in politics since childhood like him. While Dhwajais the youth wing secretary of his party and a prospective candidate, Ramya’s party selects her for an upcoming bye-election. Meanwhile, Jana is in love with Mahalakshmi(Divya), a egg vendor.

In a Sudden development, Dhwaja was made to contest against her girl friend Ramya. Will the love birds fight against each her? How will Jana comes into this mix makes the crux of this film.

Ravi in his debut has done a very neat job. The swag in the character Dhwaja is uplifted by him. Priyamani has given one of her career best performances in this film. As a Cunning politician, she is outstanding. Divya was lively in her brief role.TN Seetharam as a Party leader has done a good job.

Songs which are retained from the original film Kodi are bit average. The BGM is convincing for this political thriller. The action sequences are choreographed well. The cinematography is very good throughout the movie.

Summing it up, Dhwaja works for its treatment and performances. Audience can have a good watching experience.
